Giraffe Man: Belts, Pillow, Etc.

Continued on the giraffe man. Today was his belt, pillow, necklace, and other bits...everything I decided to make orange. He's coming along, but slowly.

Giraffe Man: Tunic

I completed the giraffe man's tunic -- added the shading and highlighting. Not much more to say about it. I mixed some purple into the green in the deepest shadows, and used a light yellow for the highest highlights.

Giraffe Man: Spots, Hooves, Tunic

Made a fair bit of progress on the giraffe man today. I finished up his spots, did the hooves, and base coated the tunic he's wearing. Once I had them all, the spots were rather busier than I expected. Hopefully once I have some paint on the rest of him that will help some. Oh, there's a lot of physical depth to the figure on the front side, so getting him all in focus is problematic.

3!

Finished Thoth. I did the blade of his sword last, and it's definitely the weakest thing. I rushed.

There's a bit of variation on his base. When I was painting it, I accidentally dipped my brush is a darker brown that was on my palette. I liked the effect I was getting as I tried to cover it up, so I added some more.

Thoth: Gold

Worked up the highlights on Thoth's gold. It's not quite done; I still need to put the white on. It never looks complete without that.

Thoth: Gold Bits

Finished off the red bits on his belt and collar, and then moved on to the gold. It's a base coat and shading.

I haven't tried red NMM before (though that's not supposed to be metal on the collar so much as enamel). I went to orange and yellow for the highlights; it's surprising to me how little that shows. Not that it's a bad thing.

Thoth: Belt, Shawl

Continuing on with Thoth, I worked on his belt, shawl, and collar thing. The blues are done or close to it, the red is just a base coat.

Thoth: Highlighting Linen

I put a small, deeper round of shading on Thoth's linen, and then moved on to highlights. Some progress.

I've got a couple commission pieces coming soon, so I'm going to try to finish off one, maybe two of my in progress figures. I think Thoth here will be quickest to finish, so I'm going to focus on him, and then the giraffe man.

Thoth: Shading Linen

Put some shading on Thoth's linens. I have one darker round of shadow color I'm going to put in for the deepest shadows; I tried it out just on the upper edge of the back of his skirt. The it'll be on to highlights, and a whole lot of cleanup and smoothing. Well, maybe not that much smoothing, considering the transitions on his skin are not that smooth.

Oh, also did his beard except for the bead at the bottom, and put a smidge of highlight on his eyebrows to help them show up more.

Orlando: Tabard Texture. Thoth: Linen

Today I started putting in the texture on Orlando's tabard. It's just the beginning of something that's going to take a while. I did the shadow areas in one panel of the yellow. It still needs a lot of tweaking - my lighter shadows got lost, and they will also need to be made broader. Yeah, that's kind of unusual, but since I plan to texture this surface, the texture will have to be present in the mid tone areas as well.

Don't worry, it'll make more sense when I get farther into it.

I also put a base coat on Thoth's linens. As I suspected, getting some color on the rest of the figure is helping with his skin.

Thoth: Skin. Giraffe: Eyes, Glasses

I focused on Thoth today, shading and highlighting his skin and doing the details of his face. I'm not happy with his skin, but I'm also not at all sure what to do to improve it. It does tell me I need to work on dark skin tones, though.

I also did the giraffe man's eyes and glasses.

Orlando: Tabard. Giraffe: Spots, mane, head.

I did the freehand pattern on Orlando's tabard. It came out OK...not great. The one on his back got squished.

And, I worked on the giraffe. More spots...lots more spots. Also did the mane and his face, though I may go back and make the eyes more human looking, and I haven't done anything with his glasses yet. I'm also debating on what to do with shading and highlighting on him on the fur. I may just skip it.
