Infelix: Skin. Abdel.

Continued working on Infelix today:

Next for him will be finishing detailing his face, and also dealing with all the cuts he has sculpted in. Infelix is apparently not the best gladiator ever.

I also finished the prep work on my next large scale project. This is Abdel.

I have an idea in mind for his face and mane, but not for the clothing yet.

24!

Finished up the Nubian woman today. Also started on Infelix. I will put him up first.

I should have done a lot more clean up and filling and whatnot on his than I did. The cast is...kind of a mess. But a lot of the worst of it is hidden, so I'm going to ignore it. It'd be hard to fix some of it without messing up more visible areas.

And here's the finished nubian.

Nubian: Pants

I went with green, because that's what I felt like doing.

I wasn't sure what to go with for her shoes. I'd originally thought to make them the same color as her pants, but that seemed a little weird. So I ended up going with dark brown. It balances against the dark brown hair.

I need to finish the spear, her belt, and shoes, all of which are small. I should be able to wrap this piece up next time.

Nubian: Skin, Face, Hair

Got what I wanted done with her today - another round of highlights on the skin, details on her face, and the hair.

I need to get a picture where you can see the highlights on the crown of her head. Without those being in view, the hair looks a little weird.

Next will be her pants, as soon as I decide what color to go with. I just did a bunch of green, blue, and purple, so maybe not those. However, last time I did a dark skinned figure I gave him red clothing, and I don't want to repeat that, either. I could go with an off white, like ancient Egyptian linen, but she'll be pretty monochrome if I do that. So I dunno. Hopefully I can pick something by next time.

Nubian: Skin

I worked on the Nubian female today. She's a small, simple figure, so I've got a good chance of getting her finished before the end of the year. I based, shaded, and started the highlights on her skin. I've got a little smoothing to do as well as another round of highlight.

I'm hoping to finish the skin, face details, and hair next time.

23!

Finished off the angel today, in sort of a rush.

It is a soundly so-so piece. But, I played with a new paint for the skin tone and found a way to work with it that I liked. I also enjoyed doing a different hair color, and working with the limited palette, though I probably could have done better with that by using different lightnesses of the greens and purples in more areas.

I also continued prepping my two new projects today, but that was limited to primer and some cleanup, so there's nothing interesting to show with them. Next time.

Angel: Wings. Next Projects.

PLEASE NOTE: One of the figures included in pictures in this post is a topless female. That will be the case for the next few posts, most likely. I will try to keep it at the bottom so it doesn't show up on front pages and feeds and so on.

I got in a little work on the angel today, just putting the green tips on her wings. I hope to get her finished next time.

I also worked on preparing my next couple of projects. I'm starting another Arena Rex gladiator, Infelix:

His other arm goes across his body, so it'll have to be attached after painting.

With him done, I'll have painted the content of one of the starter kits for the game. I don't plan to go faction by faction, but it'll be nice to have a 'set' done and playable.

Lastly, I pulled this Hasslefree figure from the pre-primed box. Like most of them, she has Fuzzy Primer Syndrome, which is sad. I'll see what I can do about that, to kinds smooth it out. A lot was rubbing off when I was basing her anyway.

She should be a quick, simple paint.

I have another bust I'll start soon as well, as soon as I can decide which one I want to do!

Angel: Staff, Wings

I'm not that thrilled with the staff, but I don't hate it enough to redo it, either. Really, this piece is just in 'get it finished' mode.

I base coated the wings in the same color I used for the base coat on her armor. Goes to show how much the highlight color can change the perceived color of something. The wing tips I'll do in green. Very limited palette on her.

Still haven't decided what to do with the flame. Right now I'm thinking maybe yellow.

Angel: Clothes/Armor

Finished my commission. I think the rest of the year is going to be dedicated to finishing off bits and pieces, starting with the angel. Today I worked on her clothes/armor...whatever that is supposed to be. Still no plan for the flame.

Angel: Hair and stuff

I did her eyes, hair, and started on the rest of her clothing, such as it is.

I'd originally wanted the drapey bit on the bottom to be a darker green than her hair, but when I had that darker green on there it just looked black, which I didn't want. I'm also being lazy with the purple parts; there should be multiple materials in there. Meh.

I'm still unsure what I'm going to do with the flame. I will note that I did not take the highlights on the green toward yellow, so that's not going to be a thing.

Angel: Skin

I'd meant to start working on my commission piece today, but I just wasn't feeling it. So, instead I went back to the angel. I may keep working on her for a couple days - do a quick, low pressure piece to recharge my batteries - or I may go to the commission piece next time. Depends on how I feel.

I've decided to play with colors on her. The skin tone is a much yellower one than I usually use (it's Reaper Elf Flesh). I'm using a reddish purple (Reaper Bruised Purple or something like that) mixed with the skin tone for the shadows, and for the highlights I'm mixing the base skin tone with Linen White and Lemon Yellow. I used that Bruised Purple straight for her lips and the lining around her eyes. It gave her a pretty goth kinda look, which I'm going to stick with as a theme, I think. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to articulate that theme, as I've already decided she's going to have green hair and probably a lot of green elsewhere on the figure as well.

I also haven't decided what to do with the flames in her hand and the OSL that they call for. That's not really good - I should have a plan for that so that I can handle the highlighting and shading over there appropriately as I'm working on those areas. At best, it means I'll probably have to redo all those shadows and highlights.

I might go with a white flame - I can't recall seeing anybody do white OSL, though it should be possible. There are two difficulties I see what that. One, white is the defacto light color used for the regular' highlights on most figures, so having white highlights from the source won't be as different as they could. I'm thinking I'll try to get around that by putting yellow in my 'regular' highlights.

Two, the source needs to be the brightest thing on the figure, meaning it needs to be the actual white thing. Which means the highlights from that source will be...what? Less bright white? No good will come of that. Probably it'll just be white mixed with whatever the base color for that area is.

In any case, I expect it will be a bit of a challenge, not made any easier by the fact that I'm not accounting for it early.

But I do like those yellowish skin tones with the reddish purple shadows.

22!

Here's the cowboy, with his base completed!

Clearly, I used the railing. I had some trouble getting it attached. My plan had been to run a pin from the base up into the posts. The problem is, the posts are far enough toward the edge that I couldn't drill into the plinth. So, I moved it in a board and stuck a couple bits of plastic under there to add some more surface that I could glue the bottom of the posts to. It's still not great, but I think it's reasonably solid.

For the wanted posted, I printed out the posted on my printer, then glazed it with a very thinned down off-white to age the paper. I tore it up a bit, crumpled it, and glued it in place.

Last was some pigment to add some dirt and dust on the floor, railing, and his boots.

Next, I have a commission piece to work on, so posts will be sparse until that it done.

Cowboy: Coat Part 8 (Done!)

And, finally!

I have to finish his base now, which I expect to take a couple of days.

Cowboy: Rifle

With the back of the coat finished, I put the rifle in its spot on his back and painted that.

I'm hoping to get the coat finished tomorrow.

Cowboy: Coat, part 7(!)

Finished up the back of the coat today.

With the back done, I may briefly change direction and do the rifle that goes on his back. That way, when the front of the coat is done he'll be done.

Cowboy, Part 5

I'm afraid that until the coat is done, this is going to be very repetitive. This is the highlights and the midtone of the lower coat section.

Next will be the shadows on the rest of the back of the coat.

Cowboy: Coat, Part 4

More texturing on the coat. The second sleeve didn't come out as well -- the shadow colors are off. I tried various means of fixing it, but it still doesn't match. A risk of working on something in sections like this.

The back panel isn't finished. It's got the shadows in and the first round highlight color. Note that the highlight color goes right up to the shadows. I'll be bringing the midtone back in by texturing it in the proper area. I'll also put on a brighter highlight limited in area, as well.

Next time will be finishing off that panel, then doing the rest of the back side of the coat.

Cowboy: Coat, Part 3

Continued on texturing/shading/highlighting the cowboy's coat.

I flip back and forth between liking it, and thinking it's kind of a mess. Be that as it may, I intend to continue. It's going to take quite a while. Next time I'll finish the other arm and then move on to the back.
